I Do Not Sniff Da Coke

I'm in my 30s. Ok, my mid 30s. I sorta thought I was past the age when being a dipshit was "cool".

I was talking with a coworker, and the subject of drugs came up. I don't really remember how the subject came up. Maybe we were talking about the mandatory company drug awareness training or something. But anyway, the subject came up...and I mentioned that I have never done drugs. Ever.

My new coworker...who is in her 30s, and married with kids...called me a square and actually drew an air square with her fingers. Then proceeded to tell me about her and her husband doing all kinds of drugs in high school and college.

Neat.

Oh yeah? Well....were you Presidente of el Club de Espanol? Were you disecting a cat in AP Biology? Did you work at Kentucky Fried Chicken? Did you go dancing on weekends? Like, to church dances, where you had to get interviewed by a Bishop, and wear a skirt that was at least to your knees?

Cause that's what I was doing in high school. And my mom thinks I was pretty cool.

Sigh. We are cheap drunks, aren't we?

I get secret revenge by imagining how great my skin and hair will look after NOT bingeing all through my 20's and 30's. It's not very Christ-like, but it makes me happy.

we get the same reactions from, surprisingly, my lds in-laws. (maybe it's not so surpising if you know them.) it was only a few years ago that they gave up on trying to peer pressure us into trying pot. sad.

when berek was doing his background investigation for the chp, the investigators couldn't fathom it, either. they were sure he was lying and went the extra mile to gather extra contacts to see if anyone had dirt on him. not drinking was the biggest deal. friends would report back to us how te investigator would grill them, "not even ONE drink? ever? you've never even HEARD of him having a drink recently? what does he do for stress relief?"

there are several payoffs, but uk yankee is right... whenever berek spends some time with a druggie, even reformed, he is always surprised by how old they really are. he arrested a 43yo man the other day who he thought was in his 60's and that tore-up woman in her 50's? yeah, she was 28.

I don't feel like I missed out on anything by avoiding drugs. Seeing as I have crippling addictions to stuff like peanut butter bars, I shudder to think how hard it would be to kick a dangerous habit like heroin or coke.

I can't believe she made the air square. And that you didn't slap her.

I've never even had a drink of alcohol! I will own being a square.

Although, I do know how to smoke meth using a lightbulb. All is not lost.

I was made fun of at work (when I worked in the Psych clinic) for being a square when I admitted that I'd never watched a porno. It's not the same thing as the drug conversation, but I still wanted to share.

I sure think you're cool!

And I have never once felt like I've missed out by not drinking or doing drugs. In fact, I think I had a lot more fun staying sober than some of my friends that didn't.
